Let The Chick Flicks Resume
The colder weather finally settling in here in the Northeast ushers in one of my favorite times of the year: Chick Flick Season.
Yup, I’m addicted. So much so that last December, in this very space, my guest blogger (The Hubby) complained that I never seemed to want to go to the movies with him. (I did, of course, but he wasn’t willing to accompany me to view my genre of choice.) I believe he said that he thought he was “below my pals” and “just above a crying infant” on my list of people to go to the movies with. Ouch.
So in anticipation of much heavy-duty chick flicking ahead, I purposely set up dates recently for us to see two good-for-both-X-and-Y-chromosome-viewers movies. (By the way, they were both terrific; I wasn’t bored for a second in either. If either are still around in your area, go see Gone, Baby, Gone (riveting) and American Gangster (ditto).
After two weekends in a row in which we went to the movies, The Hubby turned to me and said, “They were both really good, but I can see that this can get to be too much.” That's it. I promptly dropped him down below the squalling baby on my favored movie-going companion list.
PS: Seen any good chick flicks lately? And what's on your personal gotta-go-see-it-the-minute-it-opens list?

I have a chick-flick that you can trick your S.O. into thinking is not: Lars and the Real Girl starring Ryan Gosling. It's about a guy who orders a sex doll off the Internet and pretends she's a real person (that's for the Y-chromosomes). But he's really a wounded soul, and the whole town comes together to support his relationship with the doll to help him heal (that's for the X-chromosomes). When I left the theater, people were sobbing!
And don't forget about "Michael Clayton" -- also a real winner. I'm beginning to think that"if you seek, you shall find"; Hollywood is finally beginning to recognize the wisdom in producing the "two for one" movie genre.

Chick Flix are better than therapy. Where else can you laugh & cry & be hugged by a loving friend. And not have to say a word!Don't answer that! Its an escape from reality for an afternoon when there are no words. Its a savior for me!
I think Michael Clayton is a good compromise movie because the women get to look at George Clooney for 2 hours and the men get action.
