Move It!

I'm kinda busy with NaBloPoMo over at Parenting Without A License, so for today's post, I'm going to answer Funny Mom's question about how many opportunities to be active in school my kid has in an average week.

Diva Girl has two 40 minute P.E. periods a week, minimum. Everyone in her school does, even the JKs. They also have minimum of 10 minutes of QDPA per day. QDPA is Quality Daily Physical Activity and is a program mandated by the Ministry of Education for all children in school. Kids do exercises, dance, play active games--the possibilities are endless, so long as they are active.

There are also two 15 minute recess periods and a 40 minute lunch period each day during which the kids are free to run around, play games, use the play equipment....Essentially do their thing and be kids.

Finally, there are the sports. Everyone from Grade 1 up is welcome to join in the houseleague teams that run at lunch hour--soccer, floor hockey, basketball....plus gymnastics team and dance team.

So yeah, I'd say that my kid has plenty of opportunities to be active in school.

Like FunnyMom, my child is in Kindergarten, but Kindergarten only runs for half days in our district. 2.5 hours x 5 days a week.

Gym is scheduled 3 times per week. Her teacher also takes them outside to play whenever the weather is nice, preferring to save "seat work" for rainy days. This is all in addition to the singing, dancing, and games they play the rest of the day.

So I would have to say my child has plenty of opportunities to be active as well.
