The Funny Mom Family Dec. 2007
(Don't you just love holiday photos of children and families with the wintery backgrounds?! It's like what are these people doing out in Central Park in December without their coats on?!)

It's two days till Christmas. You're probably busy stressing over unwrapped presents, trying to fit in time to run out and buy something for that someone you forgot, or like me doing last minute baking. It's easy to lose perspective on the holidays when you're a woman...in particular a mom....because we have so much work to do!!

I love all the freedom we have now women: we're free to raise the children and work. I wish I had more time and energy for all this freedom. I think women's liberation was a male conspiracy: Susan B. Anthony was really Anthony B. Susan.

In light of my ability to easily lose perspective and whine about how stressful the life of a modern mom is (especially when your husband isn't getting that great bonus this year because of the declining mortgage market, excuse me as I selfishly digress), my dear friend Odile sent me an email that contains these sobering statistics:

If you've got food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep....You are richer than 75% of the world;

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet and spare change in a dish someplace.....You are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy;

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness....You are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week;

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture or the pangs of starvation (my father has experienced three of these)....You are ahead of 500 million people in the world;

If you can attend a church meeting, without fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death......You are more blessed than three billion people in the world;

If you can read this blog....You are more lucky than over two billion people in this world who can not read at all.

I don't know how accurate these figures are but you get the message: we're all blessed.

Have a happy and healthy holiday and all the best in 2008.

Love,
your Funny Mom
