Meanest Mom on the Planet

All it took was an ad in The Des Moines Register for one mom to become the “meanest mom on the planet.”

After finding alcohol in her 19-year-old son's car, Jane Hambleton decided to sell the car via a detailed newspaper ad that read: “OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet."

CNN quotes Hambleton saying, “It's overwhelming the number of calls I've gotten from people saying 'Thank you, it's nice to see a responsible parent.' So far there are no calls from anyone saying, 'You're really strict. You're real overboard, lady."”

Take this quiz to find out what kind of parent you are. Do you have trouble saying “no” to your kids or are you a mean mommy?

Did this mom take it too far or was she justified in her discipline tactics? What's the craziest thing you've done to teach your kid a lesson?

I think this mom is a Love and Logic user. She set the limits, her son broke them, and then had to face the consequences. He may be mad now, but at least he might learn the lesson to keep alcohol out of the car now, before it's too late and the consequence is more serious. I love this mom!

this woman needs to be given the best mom award!! she is setting an example, she made a rule, and explained the consequences of breaking it... the rule was broken and she stood by what she said, instead of making an allowance. this should teach her son that he cant give in to peer pressure, and to stand up for what he believes to be the right thing!!!

I think this is completely appropriate. Obviously her son isn't responsible enough to have a car at this point. Better she take the car away then her son gets in an accident drinking and driving. Someone might die...

Way to stick up for your moral principles.

I posted a link to this article a couple of days ago on the Discipline Styles Debate message board (because I thought it was hilarious and smart) and the response wasn't nearly as positive as these are.

This is awesome, all the power to her, where I live, the legal drinking age is 19, but if the alcohol isn't locked in the trunk, then I would have done the same thing if I were in that situation. Nobody has the right to drink and drive, and AMEN to that "mean" momma!!

I read about this story on the "real" mean mom's website, plus another story of a dad who hung his son's truck in a tree! My son is young yet, but I strive to be a mean mom, too! Check out the Mean Mom's website: http://www.askmeanmom.com
