Running Out Of Space

iVillage_@babyinsink.jpg

My friend just sent us an email with her new address containing this photo.  The caption read, "We moved to the country because we needed more space."  Sadly, you just can't put kids in storage.

Ever since we became parents, my husband and I have more stuff than ever.  We always prided ourselves on the motto - we collect experiences not stuff.  Kiss that goodbye!  Between Lily's baby things and all her present belongings (indoor/outdoor toys, skis, skates, bicycle, clothes) our home is officially on overload.  Yes, I've kept Lily's baby gear and furniture just in case we have another.  I find myself buying at least one giant plastic storage tub a week from Target.  Forget outsourcing jobs let's just outsource our stuff.

Any advice on paring down?!

Share! But only with people you like and trust. You don't want to share a crib that Lily doesn't need with a friend who does a horrible job of taking care of things...especially if you are planning on asking for it back to use for another baby.

Anything you don't use for more than a year, except for seasonal decorations (like Christmas ornaments or Halloween stuff)get rid of. My husband and I live by that rule and we're much happier.

I love your posts, I can always relate.

OMG! My coworker just showed me this blog! That foto is too much.

REcipe for non-clutter - I don't know - but when you figure it out let the rest of us in on the secret. I'm a mom of three and I have more crap than I can keep track of.

My husband and I live in a condo--talk about no storage space! We've got 2BD 2BT and so far the baby's taken up one of each. Luckily we've got a storage closet downstairs that we stash most of our stuff in, but if we just have WAY too much of something then we go to local stores who sell our stuff at discount and give us a percentage of what they make on the sale. Check local children's hand me down stores for locations, at least you get back some of the money you paid for all these things!

OM God I have 3 teenage boys. You'd think they'd have less stuff than girls but you'Re wrong. Between, the hockey equipment, football gear (all their sports gear), the crap for their cars, their tools, I'm going out of my mind. My basement and shed are brimming over with their stuff. My guest room just became another one of their work shops.

What I'm saying is that parents never have enough room in general so good luck.

Love that photo, reminds me of an old joke.

That baby looks so cute! I remember those days. My youngest is now 7 and remember all that baby gear. IT's overwhelming. We're just digging out from Christmas. I asked my family to this year only get each kid one toy for a total of 6 presents and no one heeded my request. In fact, it"s like they went crazy at Walmart. God help me. I'm making a trip to goodwill this weekend to get rid of most of their old toys and some new ones that I don't approve of.

That's the answer - Goodwill.
