When Their Pets Are Their Children

We spent a wonderful evening with our friends this weekend....and their cat Max.  A little history.....our dear friends, Brian & Suzy, decided many years ago that they never wanted to be parents.  However,  Brian and Suzy are now at the point where they send out profesionally taken holiday cards featuring their children:  Max and Snickers.  My response when Suzy asked what we thought of the card, "They're adorable, they have your eyes."  They have also taken the tradition of the obnoxious, annual Christmas Newsletter to a new level:  it's all about their cats.  And they actually brag about them!  They are really starting to freak me out with this stuff.

They spend thousands on their animals too.  When they go on holiday they send their children to a special 'cat' resort, it costs about $750 a week and it's very private.  They also board them with host families when they go away, sounds like they're foreign exhange students not just felines or that they're going to pick up a second language or something.  Bizarre.  New York is a city that that caters to people who like to blow their money on the ridiculous so the 'feline spas' here make the Bide A Wee's of yore look like a Russian orphanage.  It's all so insane, now I understand why Paxil is so popular.  Share with us your stories of friends who treat their pets like children.

holy sh*t! Boy can i relate to this. I have a sister-in-law, who happens to have three sons, but still treats her dog like her fourth child. The dog sleeps in her bed with her (her kids aren't allowed to do that! so why is the dog?) and she has his portrait taken every year on his birthday! Can you imagine?! It's frightening but funny. She's a good sport about it when we tease her.

i have a friend who is totally like that! she's in her early 20s, like me and she has decided that when she gets married, she doesn't want human babies.
she has 3 pets at home and they get special treatment (expensive food, accessories, animal clothes and all that crap). she treats her furry friends better than she treats her human friends and her boyfriend.

i'm also an animal lover but i'm not obsessed. when i get married, i want human babies and animal babies. but my friend is just.. extreme!

and whenever i see cute babies and get excited, she'll be like, "must u really be that excited?"
but when she sees animals, she will go "coochie-coo-gaga" and "sooooo cuuute!"

my other friends and me don't understand.. she's weird.. and i repeat, we are all animal lovers, just not obsessed that it's weird

Oh my, I also have a friend who is like that, her and her husband are in their late 30's and they don't have or want any human babies but they do have three siamese cats, no biggy, whom they treat as if they were royalty. I don't understand them, we don't relate at all, I've been friends with her since elementary school but we've grown distant from each other because we have nothing in common, I don't like cats and they don't know how to react around my kids, it's funny. I am a mother of 2 and have a doggie too, but my kids are my priority.
