Would You Put Your Child In Show Business?

Between Brittney, Lindsay and Miley, I think it's quite clear that children and show business are a toxic (in some cases lethal) combination.  Brittney and Lindsay are now adults and quite dysfunctional too thank you very much.  During the time Brittney was bald and beating up paparazzi with umbrellas all I could think was, "Where is this poor girls mother?"

Birttney and Lindsay have been working full time since they were children and with their parents acting as their managers and I'm sure drawing a salary from their children's earnings based on that title.  If that's not a conflict of interest I don't know what is.  Some may argue that we don't know the details of their 'financial relationships' but I think we can easily see that Dinah Lohan now has her own reality show based on the fact that her child is a talented star.....not her.  If she wasn't the mother of Lindsay I think it's safe to say she'd make a fabulous nail technician and town gossip back on Long Island.

I feel uniquely qualifed to voice my opinion on this because I'm in show business and I've had many an opportunity to put my photogenic Lily in front of the camera but I don't.  On occasion, I've put her in one of my films but then she's working with me and I call the shots...literally.  She's not working for days on end, it's maybe a few hours and she enjoys it and she NEVER misses school for it.  She has a normal life.  We're talking one film a year.  She doesn't have an agent nor a stylist.  She's a normal nose-picking 5 year old.

I feel that even at the age of 8 or 9 when children say they want to be in show business they may be doing it to please their parents.  They say they want it but do they really?  I've been making a living in show business for 14 years and I can tell you it ain't no place for kids.  Show business is a cruel mother:  one day she loves you the next day she's kicking you out the door.  Sounds like a case of neglect.  Imagine what that kind of pressure can do to a young child's psyche?  I've been to auditions, I've seen those 'stage mothers' pushing their children.  Makes you wonder: who wants it more?  (Obviously Dinah Lohan does)  Some of you may argue that that's how we create stars these days or that at least they can use all those millions they make as children to pay for therapy as adults.
